Iowa Civil Engineering Job Openings

LEE Chamberlin Consultant Engineers is always seeking new employees to join our growing team. Professional Land Surveyor

LEE Chamberlin is looking for a full-time Professional Land Surveyor. This position’s primary focus will be to conduct a combination of research, fieldwork, and multiple office functions to prepare final land survey documents. This position will work directly with and supervise the CAD technicians, field crew members, and other staff involved in the preparation of land survey documents. They’ll perform thorough research of land records from government offices or online resources and complete boundary calculations using fundamental survey principles and practices to establish property, R.O.W., and easement lines. Further, a land surveyor may work on all types of surveys including boundary retracements surveys, plat of surveys, ALTA surveys, topographical surveys, easement / acquisition plats, and final plats with associated legal descriptions. Finally, they will ensure all survey documents are in compliance with State and local ordinances along with a title and abstract review.

Qualifications needed for this position includes:

  • Professional Licensed Surveyor status in Iowa required
  • 5+ years of experience land surveying in Iowa
  • Understanding of coordinating systems and vertical datums
  • Excellent communication and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities, and work both on a team and independently

Civil Engineer

A civil engineer with LEE Chamberlin will conceive and design site plans, roadways, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water lines, and more for clients in the public and private sectors. As a full-time engineer, they assist in the preparation of drawings, documents, details, schedules, or specifications using programs such as MicroStation, Power Civil, Hydrology Studio, Stormwater Studio, and more. They’ll prepare construction documents and records and observe and inspect work performed by contractors ensuring compliance of specs, drawing, code, and safety. Further, they will communicate and collaborate with contractors, clients, and other LEE Chamberlin team members in a positive and professional manner, along with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an accredited civil engineering program
  • 3+ years of civil engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer license in the State of Iowa required
  • Strong management, communication, and organization skills
  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities, and work both on a team and independently

Survey Crew Chief

A survey crew chief is a full-time position that operates as a supervisor of our survey crew for all field work, data collection, and survey assignments. As a survey crew chief, you will be required to be diligent in field procedures, complete all assigned tasks in a timely fashion, and maintain company standards at all times. The types of surveys and services performed include ALTA/ACSM Land Title surveys, route surveys, boundary retracement surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, and more. Survey crew chiefs adhere to QA/QC procedures and note-taking along with following instructions and work orders from project managers.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Any use of robotic Total Station or a GPS rover is required – our equipment is Trimble GPS, Trimble Robotic Total Station (S7), Trimble (TSC3&7) and TDS Ranger Data Collectors
  • 5+ years of survey crew experience
  • 2+ survey crew chief experience including ALTA and Sectional Boundary Survey
  • Construction layout, ability to read and comprehend Construction Plans
  • Strong math skills
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Ability to organize field notes and execute field staking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and computer skills
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions
  • Review and follow project scope, keeping all project information and electronic file well organized

CAD Technician

A civil engineering technician, or CAD technician, is a full-time position that prepares drawings, documents, details, schedules, or specifications, and construction documents and records using programs such as MicroStation and Power Civil. In addition, they operate plan and document reproduction equipment and may observe work performed by contractors to ensure compliance of specs, drawing, code, and safety. They may also inspect construction sites for quality to report any variances and communicate with contractors, clients, and other LEE Chamberlin team members in a positive and professional manner. Lastly, they may be required to assist survey technicians in survey fieldwork along with any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree (or working toward one) in an accredited civil engineering technology program
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Experience with the programs such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, PowerCivil and more
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities, and work both on a team and independently

Land Surveyor in Training

LEE Chamberlin is looking for a Land Surveyor in Training to join our team! As an LSIT, your focus will be to build your experience by assisting and performing thorough research and documentation of land records under the Professional Land Surveyor on staff at LEE Chamberlin. Land surveying is the starting point of every project that LEE Chamberlin does, and as part of your involvement on our team, a combination of office work, research, and fieldwork will be required as you work your way toward becoming a land surveyor. You will assist our land surveyors as they directly supervise the preparation of final land survey documents and prepare documents such as boundary retracement surveys, plat of surveys, topographical surveys, and more.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Associates Degree or higher in a surveying, mathematics, or civil engineering technology related field
  • LSIT Certification or working towards one
  • Understanding of coordinate systems and vertical datums
  • Ability to travel to various job sites and locations
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong organizational and analytical skills
